Tuesday, September 10, from 6:30pm-7:30pm: Blurred Lines: Gender in Pop Culture Roundtable
Location: Discovery 246, Memorial Union
Using the song and video "Blurred Lines" as our starting point, this roundtable will address gender and sexuality in pop culture. What messages, subtle or explicit, are out there in the music, movies, and shows that we ingest on a daily basis? How are masculinity and femininity expressed and defined by celebrity figures? How does popular
culture both affect, and reflect, our own society? What kind of issues are really behind Miley Cyrus's performance at the VMA's?
Rather than having a speaker or a panel, everyone will have the chance to contribute ideas and questions, so
be prepared for an open, free-flowing discussion. The roundtable will be facilitated by Dr. Aviva Dove-Viebahn, Barrett professor, acclaimed writer for Miss Magazine, and our new advisor.
We hope to see you there!
